IMWAH acknowledges that our work takes place in Mi'kma'ki, the traditional and unceded territory of the Mi'kmaq people

These earrings have been in my family for three generations, and now they are here with me in Canada.
These earrings were in my grandma’s luggage when she had to escape El Salvador during the civil war. When they had to leave, my mom was around 5 years old, and she was only able to return to our home country when she was 25.
During the years she was a refugee, they lived in 8 different countries. 8 different places where they had to start over as newcomers and build a new life. These earrings were with them through all those journeys.
Now they are with me here in Canada as a reminder of my family’s strength and courage to keep going every day.
For Argentina and Elena.
